What is Nidra Yoga?

Most people think that relaxation is very simple; just recline and close your eyes. Yet, more often than not many do not understand the full scope of what relaxation really means. Unless we are free from muscular, mental , psychological and emotional tensions, we are never truly relaxed.

 

Establishing a conscious relationship to deep relaxation has a profound effect to our health & well being on all levels.

Throughout this 5-day immersion, the participants will be introduced to the methodology, skills and ancient knowledge that support the practice of removing these inner tensions of the body, psyche, emotions, and mind so we can allow more fulfillment & connection with self, others and nature into our every-day life. 

Nidra Yoga is a more efficient and effective form of physiological rest and rejuvenation than conventional sleep. Those who adopt this technique in their daily routine soon experience radical changes in their sleeping habits as well as their overall well-being.

 

The total systematic relaxation of a Nidra Yoga session is equivalent to hours of ordinary sleep without awareness. A single hour of Nidra Yoga is as restful as four hours of conventional sleep.

 

This is one of the secrets of the superhuman efficiency and energy of many great yogis, past and present, who have managed to achieve so much in one short lifetime.

The yogic texts all state that peace can only be found within, Therefore, if we wish to create a more peaceful world, we must first learn how to relax and harmonize our own body and mind.

ANDRE RIEHL

Master of Nidra Yoga & Kashmir Shaiva Tantra

Student of Yoga since 1972. Disciple

 of Chandra Swami, an ascetic from the Brahmanic lineage of the Udasin, and devotee of J. Krishnamurti and Sri Ananda Mayee Ma. With them, he studied important aspects of the inner path: discernment and relationships.

 

Andre is a Professor of Nidra Yoga at the University of Poona, Mumbai-India. And has received official recognition from the Government of India through the ministry of d-ONER and for the transmission of Nidra Yoga He was named the president of the European Federation of Traditional Yoga 1992, opening 5 schools across the continent. He is also Translator and author of videos and CDs of Sanskrit chanting, novels and advanced yoga practices.

Try your best to book accommodation only around SRI THANU or TONGSALA. Found on either booking.com or Airbnb.com Please see on google maps the location of your hotel and the yoga house. Easiest way to travel is via motorbike rental or taxis. 

*** Non-Koh-Phangan resident must try to book accommodation as soon they register as it will be PEAK season on the island, it is suggested to be near the villa (Thong Sala centre), unless you are a Kohphangan resident.

Getting to Koh Phangan Island

** It is strongly advised to arrive at least 2 days before

the retreat to overcome jetlag 

 

        BY BUS & BOAT                             BY PLANE & BOAT

From Bangkok: the cheapest way is to take one of the overnight buses leaves Khaosan Road evening about 18.00 and in the next morning arrives Surathani, then take a boat from Donsak Pier.

Bus and boat combo ticket can be arranged by travel agencies on Khaosan Road for about 700-900 Baht all the way to Koh Phangan.

BY TRAIN & BOAT

Taking the overnight train from Bangkok with a proper bed is also a comfortable way to get Koh Phangan. Trains stop early morning at Surathani,  buy bus and boat ticket to Koh Phangan Island. Train tickets from Surathani back to Bangkok should be reserved in advance specially in high season.

 The cheapest option is to fly from Bangkok (BKK) to Surathani Airport (URT) with AirAsia.

Transportation to the ferry pier is easy to find at Surathani airport.

Ferries depart several times a day with the last one around 17.30.

Travel time: 1-hour flight from Bangkok to Surathani airport. Then is 1.5-hour bus ride to the boat pier and depending on what boat company you take the boat to Koh Phangan is between 1.5 hours (Lompraya)  -2.5 hours (Raja fairy).

Flying to Koh Samui is convenient, yet more expensive, you may check the rates for yourself. Koh- Samui Airport (USM) has frequent flights from Bangkok (BKK) with Bangkok airways. 

Travel time 1-hour flight and 30 minutes boat ride from Koh Samui to Koh Phangan.

Nidra Yoga offers the deepest possible states of relaxation while still maintaining full consciousness. The practice of yoga relaxation has been found to reduce tension and anxiety in people of all ages and backgrounds, responding well to autonomic symptoms of high anxiety such as headache, giddiness, chest pain, palpitations, sweating, and abdominal pain.

The techniques have been used to help soldiers from war cope with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). As the techniques with the right guidance can help us to untie psychological knots and traumas.

 

We believe Nidra yoga should be studied in-depth by all, serious practitioners who may want to explore the world of Lucid dreaming, as well as those in need of reducing anxieties and stress-related symptoms.
